why do we have chilly's garage a place for non 460 talk?

ok i am gonna open a can of worms and i am sorry for doing so

i come on this site daily and i rilly enjoy it
this is like a famly to me and i want to keep it this way but i am wondering
why this section of this fourm has rules about what you can and cant talk about? or how you say it
i just noticed a post got locked that i was kinda into
yes it is politics but this is election time and maybe some of us like to hear pepoles opions and debate about it
i respect chilly's rules or atleast try to but this is in my opion getting out of hand
why do we have this section if we cant speak our minds
i dont like to be told what i can and cant say in what should be a place to talk about what ever or so i atleast thought
once again some pepole on here feel they are forced to read thease post's
this was about politics i didnt see anything bad about it
so i guess i cant get opions on this election or speak how i feel about it to
to pepole i consider frends
and religon? well maybe i am intersted about how some pepole feel about it like someone like brett powell and most of us know how hw feels about it but maybe if he wrote and had some advice for me or whomever and was to get religous about it maybe it would help that person
i mean you should spred the word
i am not a big beliver but i also have an open mind and have no issues with how everyone else feels
i am shure i gonna catch heck for this but if we cant all be adults on this section of this fourm than why have it?

Did you have rules about what was appropriate conversation around the dinner table? How about church, do you talk about absolutely anything you would like while you're at church? Should people be allowed to say anything they please when they're around children?

Even in a "free" society, there are polite rules. They're not written in law, but common sense sorts things out for us.

Talking politics eventually leads to someone getting butthurt, holding a grudge, then spilling over into other posts. I've been at this for around seven years, trust me on this one. Just yesterday I was in a dept meeting, started out with a little lighthearted ribbing between some folks as Obama was due to visit Richmond today. Long story short, it got heated to a point that made it uncomfortable to be in the meeting after the conversation was over. In the end, what good did it do? Plenty of sites to get your political fix.

i grew up with a good set of rules
and i understand what your saying chilly and i respect that
but if there is kids on here than the parents need to be responsible
about what here kids read on the internet
religon and politics are topics that always cause issues with certin pepole
i guess i myself need to watch what i say and stay away from religon topics and politics and all the above that may offend someone
and i can do that no proublem
but it dose sux casue i myself like to talk about those issues and makes me feel like fredom of spech is fading away more and more everyday

i get sometimes get offended and i am shure i offend pepole weather i know it or not but i try not to and i never mean to hurt any1
like richer69 said he just stays away from the topics he dosent care to read about
ya see you have a choice about what you read
i relize what chilly is saying about a meeting in person were you have no choice but to hear what is beening said
but on here you dontr have to click on a topic that sayd religon
politics or what ever you dont wanna read and if you do click on it
be mature enof to understand and respect what other pepoles opions are
i can beat this issue all night long and most likely dig myself a big hole with my foot in my mouth
so i respect chillys rules and i will behave but that dosent mean i want to

I agree with Chilly wholeheartedly, this site is not the place for politics or religious discussion. There are plenty of sites devoted to those topics, and that's where they should be kept.

But it's a dry heat!

here you go that why these rules are in place

I hereby bequeath these rules to those bent on being a pain in the balls:

1) Don't be an idiot
2) Post as if you are sitting across from the "audience"
3) No religious or political posts
4) See Rule 1

My post about children wasn't really intended to point out the "children" aspect, I was trying to point out that "freedom of speech" is nice as a concept, but not necessarily correct for all areas of society.

I'm pretty laid back sort when it comes to jokes and other such things. My experience with "car guys" is that by and large, they're a rougher bunch that don't get offended by such things...so I allow it. Also, to be honest, I've never had a complaint about "vulgar" jokes that I can recall, and never have seen a post blow up due to one. I have nipped a few racist jokes for obvious reasons. From what I recall of my youth, there's not a joke on here I would have balked at around age 10 and older...there's much worse stuff going around the schools. I would draw the line, as do the folks on the forum, at any porn that made it's way on here...I consider us somewhat clean cut compared to what's available out there.

I would regret any younger kid getting on here and getting some kind of unwanted "education", but I just can't imagine that happening with any regularity. Further to that point, any young kid should be supervised anyway.

Chilly hasn't said it so, I will ... if you come into MY house you better be prepared to follow MY rules whether you agree with them or not.
If you don't like that, it's simply tp bad ... I have MY reasons for MY rules and what you think about them is your prerogative; SOMEWHERE ELSE :!: :!: :!:

see above!

Even in a "free" society, there are polite rules. They're not written in law, but common sense sorts things out for us. (That is called politically correct)
Just yesterday I was in a dept meeting, started out with a little lighthearted ribbing between some folks as Obama was due to visit Richmond today. Long story short, it got heated to a point that made it uncomfortable (maybe they need to get a thicker skin and grow a pair!) to be in the meeting after the conversation was over. In the end, what good did it do? Plenty of sites to get your political fix. (if it helped advance freedom, then I don't care)

I realize that I probably just sealed my fate, but to me it is more important than anything else. I will still love my BBF even if I acn't afford to work on it right now, but I will stand up for liberty ANYWHERE I go. I have loved talking with all of you (even the ones I do not 100% agree with , but that's what makes America great)

I say keep it light and informative, if you feel the NEED to talk smack or politics, go to Yellowbullet.com. You will feel at home there! Not that it is a bad site, it's just that if need you put in your place, THEY can sure do it!

I agree w/Randy 100%. This is Chilly's house, respect his rules. If it wasn't for him we wouldn't have this great forum that we love so much. I agree w/free speech,in the right place. This is a place we all can gather from all over the world and talk about our love and passion for automotive subjects and projects.Personally, I get tired of hearing about politics all the time.I will be so glad when it's overwith.I come here to talk and learn more about my love for cars and racing. I've seen what happens on here when you guy's get talking about politics,I can sense the anger in your posts. I get angry reading them and wonder what I'm even doing here reading this junk.CHILLY, Thanks for having the Balls to police this forum the correct way. Thanks Rick
