Ford going after enthusiast sites again..... idiots

http://www.therangerstation.com/foru...ad.php?t=32801

Pretty dumb if you ask me. I say call their bluff and make them prove in a court of law how TRS has damaged them. Crap TRS has probably generated more repeat sales and customer loyalty than anything Ford has done in regards to the Ranger.

I am not a member over there but I did a little search and it seems that ford does NOT own a trademark on the Ranger name, there are 2 that I could find one Ranger and one is Rangers, first is ranger boats, second is the New York Rangers.
So someone needs to go to the Ranger boat people and inform them that Ford is trying to steal THEIR trademarked name by buying all the domains with the ranger name in it.
This is actually an illegal activity by this law firm since they are trying to extort money for a name that the company they represent doesn't even own.

Yeah they need to fight them and Ford needs to fire that law firm. they lost a couple of the cases last year over the use of the mustang name and this one has even less grounds.

They've served Kocky Products with a cease order as well because the running pony and/or ford emblem can be seen in the pics portrayed on their shirts...Keep in mind, these are forum member personal pics of their rides submitted to be used on the shirts.

They had some great shirts too. It's funny though....Kocky sold Dodge and other shirts...yet ford is the only one going after them.

Added the ranger station plight to our site as well

It really is ridiculous how they keep coming after those that support their products.

Well guy's think of it like this...

The Ranger Station if ford owns it!

how about The Ranger Station that the US Forest Service owns?

How about towns or Cities where the School Sports teams are named The Rangers?

I think Ford could very well be barking up a law suit tree!

I'm not pleased about this situation any more than anyone else here. I had no knowledge of this, and had I known, I certainly would not have advised it.

I am in the process of tracking down our Office of General Counsel personnel to figure out what can be done. Stay tuned.

there has to be an alterior motive to this whole thing. A company like ford who, when they are selling cars, makes a couple billion a year is going after a website for 5k. I mean come on, thats a drop in the bucket for them. They have to have some sort of an angle. anyway that sucks though, really makes me not want to buy a ford product in the future.

This is at the top of the list of reasons why I will never buy a new Ford product, be it a car or parts. I will never recommend to anyone to purchase any new Ford vehicles or parts, and I will in fact continue to recommend to anyone who asks, not to purchase anything that could send money in the direction of Ford Motor Company. They have become a terrible company, attacking their most loyal customers and supporters.

I have been thinking along those lines too, I think this may very well be a shakedown scam not associated with Ford at all. From what I can tell this whole thing wsa done through and email, and NO law firm would start this type of trademark legal action with an email and REALLY wouldn't put any type of deadline in an email they would use certified letters like that did last year with the mustang web sites. I am guessing (and it is just that a guess) that some low life punk got a hold of what was happening last year and using enough data like the name and stuff of the law firm involved with that so anyone checking would find it's the same law firm as before and did a "spoof" email seeing if they could get someone to just cough up the $5000.
Personally I would retain a lawyer just in case (let them have what is going on so far, and send the law firm their information) and then just let the deadline come and go, IF they are really trying to do this the next step would be a certified letter or a summons to court, but more likely will just get another email like the nigerian scammers (and probably is one of them, the wording of the email is identical to the wording of the letter the mustang websites got last year with the word ranger replacing mustang)

Apparently it stems from the ranger station possible selling a some stickers that infringed on Ford's copyright.

I don't know if they did or not but the lawyers seem to think so.

Seems awful weird that they would demand $5k AND the rights to the domain name.
