Autometer shift light question

I'm building a custom housing for my tach and shift light. I've got the tach figured out but was curious if anyone had disassembled a shift light? I would like to shorten the shift light length but I'm unsure what the internals look like. Is there much in the tube and can it be put in a different location? I can't get to my storage until early January and need to decide on some basic measurements for the design, these are contingent on being able to shorten the assembly. Thanks for any help.

I was hoping that was it. I need to shorten the tube length by better than half. Thanks.
