MY latest 390 little disaster

motor started burning ALOT of oil and down on power
#4 cylinder low low compression.
Parked the truck, and now finally I've had a chance to pull it apart since I moved down to AZ

I do believe the block is ruined, it's .040 over already
I could sleeve it rebore and new pistons.
motor overall only has like 30K miles,

On the other hand I have a line on a 67 T-bird with a rebuild 390 I could get for $500. Use the motor, sell the rest. probably break even....

opinions?

thanks and take care!

#4 cylinder on my 69 pickup
The line on the cylinder wall is the wrist pin that rubbed through

Looks like 2 big score marks in the cylinder wall. Might need to turn your brightness up on your monitor, sometimes I have a hard time seeing pics using different screens.

I had the exact same problem happen on my 390. I took it all apart and sleeved the cylinder and when I put it back together I used spirol lox instead of the snap rings

Had that happen on a 360 years ago. The wrist pin wore a groove in the cylinder wall so thin it was porous  . Driving home from work one day all I saw was white smoke out the tailpipe. Motor never made a noise at all.

Yep The engine actually ran fine, smooth, no noises.. But oil smoke a plenty
I'm going to a call a couple machine shops today and see what sleeving will cost.
