One Battery or Two

How many guys run 2 batteries in their car? Is it for extra cranking amps or extra ballast?
The reason I ask is because I am currently building a new Torino Drag car and thought about buying a large deep cycle battery and put in the pass. side rear of the car.
In my current Torino I run 2 batteries but thought if I can get away with one I would.

Thanks Tore

when I ran 12v I ran just 1 with no alt, no problems but the electrical stuff needs to be in order........good cable, connections. Had to charge between rounds, still no big deal if I had to hot lap.

Two Turbo Start 16V batteries, no alternator. Never has dropped below 16.2V per the data logger. Whichever way you go, just make sure you go 16V. You will be glad you did.

Install two Optima red tops.

Aside from the normal high-amp quick charge most batteries see between rounds, it's a good idea to put a long/slow low-amp full charge on the batteries sometime during the week before each trip to the track.

I run one yellow top optima with a alt. I had a dragster once with two batteries in it. Just for kicks I took one battery out. The car picked up almost a tenth (due to the weight reduction). This was on back to back runs. I have run one battery since.

I run two red-top Optimas, no alternator, mounted in the trunk behind the passenger wheel tub. They have been in my car since 2002...love them long time. However, when the time comes, (and it will come) I'm planning on upgrading to the 16V...I've heard too many good things about the 16V stuff...Good luck with it.
