Changes in Education !!!

This could work !!!

Let's go back to giving the kids ONLY an 8th grade education!!!!

Wow!!!!!!!! In the past two decades, we have dummied-down our schools to
make all students successful, that I doubt if college students could answer most
of these questions. I know most adults cannot write a check or figure interest
or balance checkbooks!!!!! This is a great e-mail.

What it took to get an 8th grade education in 1895...

Remember when grandparents and great-grandparents stated that they only had an 8th grade education? Well, check this out. Could any of us have passed the 8th grade in 1895?

This is the eighth-grade final exam from 1895 in Salina , Kansas , USA . It was taken from the original document on file at the Smokey Valley Genealogical Society and Library in Salina , and reprinted by the Salina Journal.

Notice that the exam took FIVE HOURS to complete.
Gives the saying "he only had an 8th grade education" a whole new meaning, doesn't it? Also shows you how poor our education system has become.

And, NO, I don't have the answers!

That's very interesting!! I have seen studies done on creativity, and kids in grade 1 were way more creative than ones in high school.

I think they are making our kids dumber..........

It all make sence in the long run. I am not a conspiracy thoery nut or anyhting, but it makes sence if you understand that an uneducated population is easier to rule and control. Face it, you don't hear the ruthless dictators of the world raving about thier remarkable education systems. Every politician in the U.S. runs on campaigns raving about education reform, but the only thing that ever happens is the schools get burdened to deal with more bureaucratic bull crap with less funding. It is the impact the wealthy have on the system as well. Uneducated people make cheaper laborers.

There have been a ton of phsycological studies done in the realm of education. There are simple changes that could be implemented that would have a major impact on the quality of education kids recieve.

#1-Segregate classes. Boys and girls learn differently, and trying to teach them the same way is a flop. Boys are more tactile, driven to be physical, and need more active learning environments than are offered in the current school system. That is why boys are far more likely to drop out than girls, and the boys that graduate high school are far less likely to go to college. Boys are also far more competitive with each other and easily distracted when girls are around. We only have one thing on our minds from birth to death...

#2-Dietary changes. School lunches are made from cheap foods that are high in sugar and fats. There is also an abundance of soda machines and candy available at schools today. I don't remember where it is, but one district banned all soda and candy, and changed the lunch menu to include higher quality food. They immediately saw changes in behavior, with students paying more attention in class, and test scores going up. There was also a drop in diciplinary actions. The changes didn't even cost them more money.

That is my two cents on the subject. I am 27 and in college now, and I wish to god my high school education was better. I have been playing catch up on math since I seperated from the military 3 years ago, and I still have a long way to go before I can transfer into my degree program. Somethings got to change...

Of course we all know that one of the worst dictators the world has ever seen came to power in a nation that was the most educated in Europe...... Educated in what way and to what standards is anyone's guess.....
