My opinion:

I think the only time they made money was when someone had the track rented for a special event. NHRA National Event, NMCA, The Million, etc. The bread and butter races that pay the bills (bracket racing) didn't do so well and couldn't support the day in, day out operations of such a large facility.

Also, being owned by a large corporation, they would be expected to make a certain return on investment, which they didn't make. The bean counters would say pull the plug and take it as loss to offset some of the corporate taxes.

Probably like some companys I know of, they say things like, "we had record high revenue plus a record profit for our company history", then turn right around and say,"but we didnt make what we wanted to, so no pay raises for the employees and we might sell off some of our divisions" Meanwhile, the CEOs, management,(jerkoffs) etc. get huge bonus and other perks.
