Going back to work after a 12 month layoff!

Today marked being laid off for 12 full months. The good news is that I received a call today and have been called back to work with my former employer, American Steamship Company. It's been so long, it really felt good to get the call that they have a job for me. I'll board my new ship on this Friday or Saturday. I'm just a temporary relief filling in for someone that's getting off, but it's still a good paying job anyway. If I get 30 days in, my health insurance will be reinstated and I'll be able to stop making the COBRA payments to keep my insuance going. Hopefully the domestic steel industry continues to recover and I'll get a steady job out of it. I've got several things I want to do with my Mustang project to finish it up, maybe now I'll have the money to do it. If I can come up with the money, I'd like to drop my car off at Team Z and see what they can do to get my car to hook better! I'm also kind of past the workable limits of my Holley Blue fuel pump and desperately need to upgrade to an Aeromotive A1000 or similar fuel system that will work both at the track and on the street.

We have Sprint 3G wherever we get close enough to receive it. We have it in virtually all ports, the St Marys river, StClair and Detroit rivers, and pretty much hit and miss every where else. We can usually get online for a few hours each day and when we get down to the lower rivers we'll have it for almost 2 days straight. It's better than nothing, which is what we had up to last year. The ships office in the pilot house has a constant satellite link that is used for email and ships business. In an emergency I can use that as long as it's not during working hours. There are no long term deals in this business, It's feast or famine. One year they can't make enough steel, and the next they are only running the blast furnaces at 40% of capacity. As far as the job goes, were supposed to have enough loads scheduled that we should be running until around Christmas. But then if a steel mill cancels their orders, we could be all done in a week! Boy this downturn has been hell. Buy American!

The problem is it's very hard to find products made in America any more. Sad very sad.

Try www.allamericanclothing.com, for quality and long lasting jeans and shirts. I've been wearing their jeans for years now, much longer lasting than the Mexican made Wranglers I used to wear.
