brake and tail lights should be separate.
brakes run off your turn signal filiments.

Despite what you've heard, opportunity does not knock

If you wire the left turn signal and the right turn signal individually, when you use the brake, you will have brake lights. The tailight is a separate wire.

On a seven prong trailer plug the individual wire marked brakes is for the electric trailer brakes...

As stated above the brake lights and the turn signals work together. When the brakes are applied both turn signal lites come on at the same time. voila brake lights.
