2001 F250 7.3L not charging

So my starter was bad, I replaced it as well as the relay. Battery light stayed on in dash afterwards. Replaced the alternator, light still stays on. Drove 20 miles, gauge starts dropping. Any ideas why it is not charging?

unhook it from the battery and check the alt output.
if it seems fine take a closer look at your battery. Could be shorted cells causing you headaches.

Unhook the battery or unhook the Alt? The Alt has a 2 wire harness as well as a one wire lead. Which on? Can I start the truck and hook up volt/amp meter? What should it read?

GD harnesses. i was thinking old school
Yeah check it as is, the alt should be charging 13.8 ish...

you could also Isolate your batteries from load and each other and check the voltage individually. I'd load test each of them individually as well if you got a load tester.
I forgot you said diesel. One battery could definitly be the problem.

The large wire from the Alt didn'r register anything. I unhooked the Alt harness with one Orange wire and one Green wire at the back of the Alt, only the green wire had 11 V when the ignition switch was on. I believe both should be hot, yes? Checked the 10 amp Alt fuse and it was fine. So I have no idea what is going on??? I will check the one wire Alt wire with the truck running tomorrow. I believe it should have 14 V?

I had this once....have you had the dash out? There is a hookup for the gauge and if it is undone the alt want charge...don't ask me why, but I changed EVERYTHING and a mechanic traced a schematic....we pulled the dash out and there it was....

Somehow your field terminals are possibly not being excited.
i guess they're depressed about the upcoming winter too

Is it labelled on the alt F1, F2 or anything like that to distinguish your fields?

If the big post on the alt does not have batt voltage the fuse links are burnt............there over near the sol on the fender you replaced for no reason.

Yep, just figured that out. The large wire at the back of the Alt reads ZERO when the truck is running. Where exactly is this fusable link and how do you replace it? Do you have to splice it in? There are 2 big posts on the relay, one has no volts going to it and the other is hot. The wire is black with an orange stripe, looks the same as what is coming from the back of the Alt. Is it on that wire from the relay that is hot? There is a shrink wrap on that wire a few inches down from its connection to the relay. Is that it?

should be 2 fuseable links, they go to the bottm post which should be the hot one. Most auto parts stores should have them, the rating is usually on the insulation.

What is the deal here? It looks like he ran a wire straight from the Alt to the Bat?
