Divide the bore in half
Square it (multiply it by itself)
Multiply that number by pi (3.14159)
Multiply that by the stroke length
Multiply that by the number of cylinders.

So, for a 460
Bore = 4.36"/2 = 2.18"
2.18" X 2.18" = 4.7524"
4.7524" X 3.14159 = 14.930 sq. in.
14.930 sq. in. X 3.85" = 57.481 cu. in.
57.481 cu. in. X 8cyl's. = 459.847 cu. in. displacement.

Does that help?

Project Truck: 1980 F-350. 460 to go in place of blown up 400. Borg-Warner 4 speed, and 4.10's. Was originally a Welding/Service truck for Santa Fe railroad in Newton KS.

January 22, 2010: Dad brought home a 1988 F-350 with an EFI 460, ZF-5SPD, 2WD, 3.54's Regular Cab, Flatbed.

Mother's day 2012: Brought home Dad's ol' '79 F-250Custom. Factory 460, C6, 2WD with 3.54 Rear end, Tilt, cruise, A/C. Dealer installed Dually kit. Super Deluxe Two-Tone Dark Walnut Glow and Camel Sand.
