anyone ever had a 5.4 do this?

got 200,000 miles on my 99 superduty, has a boat-anchor 5.4 in it and when i got it a while back the guy said it was the valve cover that leaked oil, well its not its something on the passenger side, on the back of the block that leaks oil, mostly after i put a load on the engine or just floor it up a hill, so the higher oil pressure makes it run right out of the leakin spot. but i cant see a damn thing under the hood but i know its not valve cover.

i wouldnt care so much but it runs down the bellhousing and onto the exhaust and smells terrible, and when i pass someone it looks like i got a diesel under the hood that blows white smoke

I think there is some sort of sensor (or something similar to that), mounted back there. When the seal around it goes bad it leaks oil down the back of the block, on to the bell housing. This has never happened on my 5.4 SD or my 6.8 v10, so im not sure.

It's most likely the head gasket. Common problem.

Head gasket leak is most likely. What's interesting is that both heads are probably leaking but the left head leaks inside of the timing cover when it never hurts anything at all. Solution is to remove the head, resurface and put it back together with a new gasket. I don't remember how many heads we cut for a local Ford dealer but it was a bunch. That was a few years ago and it seems like Ford got the problem solved a few years ago.

any of them heads have cracks mclain? ford garage here told a friend of mine chances are if they are leakin they are cracked and tell them to buy a new head! maybe they just rather not have them surfaced and they tell people they are junk

The oil gallery that feeds the cyl head runs right at the back..........the headgaskets are MLS...........over time it leaks there and gets on the exhaust.

Pull the head and stick a new gasket on it and go on down the road.

I don't think that any of those heads were ever cracked or really defective in any way. At first Ford was replacing the heads but then later this changed to having it be ok for us to cut the deck surface. Most of the time it only took a little bit to make the head really flat. They were not bad. Fixing the problem isn't too bad but getting the head off of the engine is a lot of work.

I have the same Problem with my 5.4 but cant get time to fix myself and everybody else looks at me like I,m crazy when I ask then to fix it

The head bolts are torque to yield, so they really shouldn't be the issue.................Ford had some updated gaskets that had more "sticky stuff" on them for this concern.

Last one I did was the morning of the 911 attacks..........I dont miss that gas stuff at all lol.

wouldnt you rather put in heli coils (or whatever they call them) in the spark plug holes than try to keep those 6.uh0's going?

6.0 = diesel, not gas.Besides damn near all 6.0's are out of warranty, and when the deal is customer pay I make a real good living.

yea mine has been like this for a year and a half! i just watch my oil but someday, maybe someday id like to fix it

i tried changin spark plugs and i only did the front 2 on each side cuz i dont see how its possible to get the back ones changed, easily anyhow...
i would love to just sell the truck but people hear 200,000 miles and run crying, runs great (for a 5.4 i guess) but with high mileage and head gasket no one wants, one guy offered me 1500 and i laughed in his face. guess ill keep forever, or put a bbf in it?!!
