Speedo cable tip broken off in speedo :(

So.. I finally took a look at my non-functional speedo to figure out why it was not registering speed. I assumed it was an issue with the cable, and I was correct. Ordered a new cable, and just tried to install it today. Reached up under the dash, and found a surprise. The cable was just tucked up underneath there. Took a look at it to see if it was still fine, and discovered that the last 1/2" or so was broken off. And my worst fears were realized when I tried to insert the new cable and found that the old tip was still in there Is there any way to get it out of there? Based on the condition of the remaining cable I have to assume that it is rusty, and will not come quietly. I already tried a decent magnet with no luck. Any help is greatly appreciated, because this really sucks! TIA

The guys on woodyg suggested pulling out the cluster, turning it upside down and tapping it. If it's not rusted in there the tip should fall out. If it is then they suggested trying to drill into the back of the piece with a screw to pull it out. When I get my car back I'll have to give it a try.

take the cluster out and lay it face down on table or bench and put a few drops of blaster in every day for about a week and turn it the other way and lightly tap on it and it should fall out.
