Posting some old racing video from years ago......

I finally got around to burning some of my old racing VHS tapes to DVD's & though I would post some stuff.

My heavy beat up rust bucket '70 Ranchero with a decent nitrous Cleveland around 1989. Back then doing a bunch of dry-hops after the burnout was all part of the fun.....

My '69 Mustang about 1990 with a weak no compression mismatched "junk pile" Cleveland made from leftover parts from past "blowed-up" stuff.......

Two guys I know both ran almost identical 67-68 black Mustangs years ago, both with Clevelands & 4speeds. Back then in their fight to get to the low 6's first, there was this small nitrous ka-boom. The track announcer back then was one funny guy. He always had fun poking fun at some racers & having a few tasty beers up in the tower......

Thanks.

Too bad I wasn't a 460 guy back then instead of into Clevelands. The '69 sure could have used a bunch more low end torque.

I still have most of it. The body/chassis is sitting in storage on top of the office in my shop.

More old VHS videos now up on youtube....

I put some more of my old track videos up on youtube. These are also from the 1990's........and yes there are more fun dry-hops.

Duane's '69 Mustang with a re-ring/re-bearing junkyard 460 & C-6. This is back when it was more of a street car, before all of the current improvments were done (cage, coil overs, Stealth replacing Port-O-Sonic, & MSD replacing Dura-spark).

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vDDSE_QPHSI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cp25L375TzQ

Duane's '70 Maverick with a low buck 302 & C-6. It had subframe connectors, a roll bar, moved leafsprings, narrowed & braced 9" housing, mixed/matched stock factory axles to work with the narrowed housing, & simple slapper bars. He cut/fit/tacked everything & I did the finish welding & made the housing. He made all the motor passes & we split the bottle passes. Car was a blast for what little money was in it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gp10RA8U_MI

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=piF20OPF8E4

My '69 Mustang/junk pile Cleveland vs a vega with a killer sbc. I should have lost cuz he had been running in the 5's. But the wheel standing vega got loose & mowed a bunch of grass & I got there first. The guy shooting the video kinda lost track of where the cars were at for a second.

lol "Testing traction"......Back in the 70's I helped a friend strip out his 326 Tempest....instant Race car. The first time he raced it he did a 1 1/2 minute one-legged burn out! LOL The crowd loved it!, but it REALLY PO'd the starter. He finally walked up to the drivers window, knocked on the glass, shook his finger at my friend and pointed menacingly toward the starting line. AAAAH, those were the days! LOL

Mavericks, slapper bars, slot rims with 50`s out back, air shocks, 302, Thrush header mufflers, air cleaner with a flipped lid = instant killer street machine in the 80`s. Always loved those cars. In fact, I can hear Green Manalishi playing right now through the 6x9`s. Hear it?

6x9 TRIACS! (tri axials for all those still under 30) lol All those "mods" were just as affective in the 70's too! ......sigh.......and lets not forget the piece of chain on the drivers side of the "Race" motor to keep from breaking the motor mount! (or if it WAS already broken).

There were in fact several good reasons for doing the dry-hops back then......

Some guys drove around the water and didn't do burnouts. They just did a number of dry-hops to bring the slick temps up just enough, then staged.

Some guys did real short, almost smokeless burnouts. Just enough to clean the slicks off & get most of the water off. Then did the dry-hops to finish drying the slicks & bring them up to temp.

Also, since the slick technology wasn't what it is today, there were defiantly some compounds out there that just worked better after a hop or two after the burnout. With some of these older compounds if you just did the burnout & staged, they would just spin. It's almost like some of the older rubber compounds were too "greasy" right after the burnout.

And as Pro Stock clutch technology advanced, some of the Pro Stock guys also used to do dry-hops years ago to "seat the clutch" or to effect/change the clutch air gap before the pass.

But the best reason to do them back then was that they were fun.
