351w lifter preload

Hey guys,

i got back around to working on my 351w again. I bolted down the sled style rockers and realized that from 0 lash it takes 1.5 turns to seat the pedestal. It's been a long time since I assembled an engine and last time I believe I preloaded with a 1/4 turn.

The block was decked. I am not sure how much. The pistons are above deck by about .009".

Is this 1.5 turn acceptable? Do I need shorter push rods or need to shim the rockers?

This is a 4500 rpm engine. 2v and single exhaust.

thanks in advance,

Mark

With some searching the web and I found that after zero the bolts should go anywhere from 1/4 to 1 full turn. Looks like if I use a .050" shim beneath the pedestals it would get me to right about a 1/2 turn.

I would try that and listen to see if it makes any funny noises.

And thanks for your help with the Dex/Merc issue. You solved my problem.

Where's my beer and that half inch wrench?

Yes, 1/4 to 1 full turn is good.
