Question Accel 2020 woos

I installed a Accel 2020 kit and there 8140 Coil as recommended know I am experiencing the following symptoms. Turn over no start.
Turn key on and have 12V to wire when it is disconnected from coil.
Hook 12V wire to coil still reads 12V but when I hook up the 2020 unit the voltage drops to 6V and it will not stat.
If I run a hot wire to the + on the coil it will fire right up.
first of I thought ok the IGN switch is bad and not allowing enough amps to work the unit so I changed the IGN switch and inspected the plug in, still the same.

I am kind of leaning toward bad wiring but thought I would ask first is the voltage reading at the coil indicated above correct for Accel units.
