I got a New Job at the same Job???!!!!

I have ran a Big horizontal CNC Mill for the past 10 years and now I finally get a brand new CNC Lathe made by KIA-Hyandi(no spelling check)

It has a 12 foot barfeeder on one end a vacum unloader on the other end.
It can suck 2.5 diameter stock thru the subspindle and into the unloader then it rolls out on a table!!! This I have got to see!!!!

It has a 30 hp motor for the Main chuck, 20 HP sub spindle and 10 HP motor for live tools!!!

Hopefully this gives me more chair time.LOL

The hard part is going to be writing all the G code one peck at a time for over 100 parts!!!! No MasterCam here!!

And a big Tim Taylor grunt to you Jon! Do you think it could be rewired for more power...?
It sounds like something I would like to run - if I was qualified - which I'm not.

Could be worse...

At least it's a lathe. G code on the lathe won't be all that bad. You will still have to use a CAD package to get your points and stuff. I hope you have production run parts to justify the program time. That is our problem. We get 1 or 2 parts and they are usually hard parts that gets no-quoted by everyone else. If you had to g-code everything on the mill, you couldn't do much! I would hate to punch all the moves in a complex 3d program. Congrats on the new machine! Now you will be a "part spinner"! I'm a mill only kinda guy.

Thats all we do is Production. The Bar that I will be machining is 4340 Chrome plated rod. We use them as pivot pins in all the units we make.
Yea I heard there were usually two different kind of machinist................ Mill and Lathe guys.. I hope I can convert to the other side witout to many crashes.LOL

We dont have any cad systems for our machining, But we do not do real complicated parts. Just alot of weird angle milling, and arc milling.

I am currently using a Guhring Carbide .812 drill spade type insert in almost all the parts we do. My machine only goes to 2400 rpm MAX , and we feed it 30. IPM thru 2" thick steel with no peck!!! Its impressive to watch!!
