Lots of places to get new rear gears if you are willing to pay the price- however, if you don't want to pay the going rate, the 2.5 ratio nine inch is the common rear gear for full size 460 equipped passenger car fords, lincolns, and mercury for 1978 only. You will still want to read the axle tag, of course. The smaller engines tend to have the non-drop out rear center section, so they are not usually the nine inch. Sorry for taking so long to respond, I don't seem to be online as much lately.

I didn't think factory gears went that far "south" of 3.00 in ratio, the smallest factory gear I have found so far was a 2.79.
