I joined the 521 Stroker Club

I ordered my Scat 521 Stroker kit from Barry at SurvivalMotorsports.com I'll be getting the internally balanced 521 assembly, H-beam 6.700 rods, Probe PR13599 .030 over -26cc forged pistons, rings and bearings. Barry was a great guy to deal with, his wife just delivered a baby girl, and I actually felt bad to place an order with him at this time. He didn't care, and was very pleasant. I'll be taking pics with my "novice" build (I plan on putting it together myself), and I'll keep the site posted. I'm doing the shortblock first, and then moving on to the heads and valve train, when I figure which route I'm going to take. I'll still be running the 472 Fairlane, until I make the transplant. It's going to be a nice Spring, because I have a D1VE block .030, that I have mounted on the engine stand, and I'll be doing a whole new engine on that.

I just found out tonight, that those pistons cannot be used with the SCJ heads. They are setup for the standard valve configuration. They are notched for most aftermarket heads. I emailed them to find out about the Trick Flow Street heads, and if they can be notched for the SCJ's. I'll let you know what they say.

well i think you can still use the SCJ-A, you just can't use the better SCJ-B kaase one's..I told my buddie, when he tryed putting the b heads on his 466 that it would not work, and for sure ...he bent valve's hurt some pistons, and was really pissed off i was right..lol

And i was thinking you was the one talking about the SCJ's.
triple check your order and part numbers, then assemble the motor..lol

I thought the only difference between the SCJA's and SCJB's, were the B's have the springs for the mechanical roller, and the A's are set up for the C460 cam. I thought they both are the same new improved designed head. Is this true, or will the A's work with my Probe pistons afterall? Hmmmm

Thanks Lem, that's what I thought. I gave you props in another thread, for pointing out that I needed pistons notched for these heads. If it's not too late to change the pistons, or get the Probes with the kit notched for the SCJ heads, I'll just go with the Trick Flow Street heads. 8) I looked at the Diamond Piston Catalog, and they have the pistons I need, if going with the SCJ's.

I think..

I think Gearhead may have been referring to the original aluminum Cobra Jet heads. I think the number was A429 for them. They had the same valve location as the iron CJ's. But I could be wrong.

Where's my beer and that half inch wrench?

Okay, Great news! After speaking with Bob Jones at Scat Industries, and Barry R at Survival Motorsports, we have the combination for my build with the new Kaase designed SCJA heads. If anyone is looking to do the same, the part numbers are as follows:

Crank - 9-460-4300-6800-2200
Rods - 2-454-6800-2200 (H-beam)
Pistons (JE Forged) 232448 (Exclusively for the new Kaase SCJ heads)

The pistons are notched for the new valve positioning, -39cc dish, for a 9.8 to 1 CR with the SCJ 72cc head. I feel much better now, because I'm sticking with my "Ford Theme". I highly recommend Barry for any Scat purchases. He's a great guy, and took alot of time with me, and was always pleasant, even while being a new Daddy. The price quote didn't even change too. Thanks Barry!

(thank you Lem Evans, for helping me see I needed the special pistons for the SCJ heads, you're the best too, and I'll order my heads and Ford stuff from you, when the time comes) 8)
