Which Trans to buy?

I'm thinking glide!

90 notchback, soon to be mini tubbed, 10.5W tire's. most likely A 600 ci monster underhood..and maybe some spray if it will hold it!

Im wanting a trans that will take the abuse from the motor and laught at it! duriable, is the key, like to make it all season with breaking it if possible!

Ive been looking at the JW ultra case trans...But what do you guy's think!

The heartbeat stops here!
I bleed blue oval blue, and **** hugger orange!

Easy choice... 'Glide.

Plenty of high-end parts available. You don't need the extra low first gear with all the torque you will be making.

personally I use a 1.74 low gear glide with the torque the BBF makes no need for low geared Tranny and only one gear to hit so I would say Glide all the way......

I'm using J.W.'s Glides with BBF's, running in the 5's, and his transmissions have been tougher'n hell. Just be sure to use synthetic fluid. That case of his seems to make a big difference. Even the best internal parts will fail if you twist the case.

I was told not to use Synthetic fluid for the reason the fluid is much slicker and will sometimes make the clutches slip, so I use regular Dextron and have never had a problem. just my reasoning, but I change fluid every couple months anyways so synthetic would be lots more expensive for me...

Everything I ever read says don't use synthetic in performance applications.

same here, pg's tend to work best with type "F" fluid

Glide would help the starting line the most. JMHO.

The reason for the synthetic fluid in the glide is because of the incredible rate of temperature rise in the converter when on the transbrake. With a temp. rise of 100 degrees per second (read the J.W. book) how long does it take for the regular stuff to fry? The synthetic stuff takes much higher temps without burning.....and NO, my clutches do not slip. Just because synthetic MOTOR OIL is slicker, don't assume that synthetic TRANS FLUID will make your clutches slip. I'm pretty sure they took that into consideration when they made the stuff. (Read the book.)
Mobil 1 Synthetic trans fluid.....AutoZone.......5 bucks.

I would not mess with any type of rework P/G in a high HP car. Take a look at a lencoglide.

Buddy, are you talking about the Bruno/Lenco or Lenco Drive? Basically a torque converter/pump/transbrake unit with the standard Lenco planetaries behind it? That's what I would like to have if I had the funds. I just want to get done with everything else and then decide what to do. By the way, Mark was on chat the other night and said he ran the car. What times did it run? I can't wait to get mine done and come down there and hang out.

Later,
David

Either one, I like the lenco drive myself. Our best was [email protected] the track was not that great. We are still playing with gear ratios. Want to try a 1.25 third gear with a upper 2.60s first gear. Want to try to get the biggest rpm drop at the 1-2 gear change. By doing this the engine will recover better( more gear ratio to help it). I think we can get a 4.70 out of it ,just going to workit. Why wait to get your truck done just come on down or we can meat up at MMp and race. Yes carbs are faster on gas than injectors on our motor. The one thing we did fine out was that on gas EVERTHING has to be right with the whole car set up.

Let me know when you are going to be at MMP, and I will see if I can come down. I keep straddling the fence on the down nozzle deal, but may go ahead and try it along with a new system for MFI that looks to very promising. It's top secret at the moment, but if it works out, is going to be great for MFI users.

I run a Coan glide with a complete JW ultra case, bell, & tailhousing. I am running 5.30's with no problems. I switched trans fluid on Craig at Coan recommendation. He says the best trans fluid out there is the Amsoil Universal ATF. Not their racing fluid but the standard ATF. I have used Valvoline ATF for years but had to change it after every 15-20 passes with my 557. Hoping to get more life out of the Amsoil..
