Question about 1018 cold rolled steel

Hey guys,
I bought a short throw shifter for my birthday that is made out of 1018 cold rolled steel and coated with a black finish, it's not paint it's some sort of coating. So the question is does anyone know if I can bend this? I want the shifter knob closer toward me, so a bend would be nice but I don't want to damage the shifter. Would it ruin it if I bent it, or could I just bend it, or maybe do I need some heat? Maybe someone with some metallurgy experience could chime in please. Thank yall. You guys rock! Dave

Sounds like it falls into the general range of other basic carbon alloy mild steels (such as 1010, 1015, 1020, 1025, etc.). I guess If you can bend easily with out breaking or not depends if it was heat treated or not.
