Need 9" parts

I just purchased a 53 1/2" 9" housing for my 68 FB that I'm redoing.BUT, It needs backing plates, and a set of stock 28 spline axles. What do you have :?: Rick

If your housings are the same length, the 8" stuff should work fine in the 9" housing

The axles length will worj if the housing is the small length or within 1/2" wider.

The key for the backing plates (and matching brakes) along with the axles bearings is: What housing ends does the new rear have?

The 8" rear will have "small ford" housing ends and bearings. Some 9" rear ends also use this housing end. If the new 9" has "big ford" or "new style big ford" aka "torino style" you will need new backing plates, brakes and axle bearings. Take a look at this chart to see which one you have:
http://www.steeltechsolutions.com/REAR_AXLE_ID.html

Also note that the small ford housing ends uses 3/8" bolts to attach the backing plates. Big ford housing ends use 1/2" bolts.

David, Thank You Very Much for posting that chart. I have the late Torino/fairlane housing w/3.150 bearings. :?: Did the Torino/Fairlane's shock, mount to the housing instead of the ubolt spring pad like the Mustang :?: My 8" Mustang stuff won't come close to fitting.
