FYI.........

Motor vehicles which have had their DOT required VINs falsified or removed after October 24, 1984, are subject to seizure and forfeiture under 18 U.S.C. 512. Persons trafficking in motor vehicles with DOT required VINs that have been falsified or removed after October 24, 1984, are subject to prosecution under 18 U.S.C. 2321. See 130 Cong. Rec. S13584 (daily ed. October 4, 1984). See also H.R. Rep. No. 1456 on H.R. 4178, 96th Congress, 2d Sess. 25-26 (1980); 125 Cong. Rec. 12244 (1979).

Section 2321 of Title 18 makes it an offense to deal in motor vehicles or motor vehicle components knowing that the identification numbers have been falsified or removed.

True, but in some states with proof of ownership (both vehicles) in can be done by going through the State police,DMV,MVA,etc.(maybe as a salvage/homemade ?)
I've done it a number of times with the 68-72 and 73-79 F-series.
Not trying to split hairs,Carl.Just trying to help.

Sometimes when you play with fire, you get burned. My advise.....don't play with fire.

Any rule that encourages swapping VIN tags is stupid.

Isn't a rule stating engine must be correct for year, make and model enough?

"Engine must be correct to VIN tag" seems to be an awfully extreme rule.

It's a FORD, "numbers matching" is for Mopars . . . .

Are you still or are you looking for the aluminum tag that identifies the engine. I have one from a 1971 429 2v factory replacement engine that ford installed in my cyclone...

Umm.. because most junkyards, even though shady in and of themselves, don't want to play with the fire of law that Carl quoted above ^

WTF?

Mmm, well, when you get arrested, fingerprinted, ROR, go to the court 3 times, hire a VIN Verifier, and all to eventually have the charges dropped, I would say what the members are telling this individual is only for his good. Just because you have done it, your ignorance does not make it right.

IMHO,

Dave
