WTB.... Forged 3.85 stroke crank

I am looking for a Forged or billet 3.85 stroke crank for a pulling motor .

I don't want cast anything....

I am not really interested in a turned down 429 truck crank.....

3.00 mains
2.20 rod journals....

Anyone have anything they aren't gonna use

I am not doubting that a correctly prepared offset 429 truck crank would not hold, I would just like to build in some "warm fuzzy" if you will, in a crankshaft that will be spinning 9000 rpm and and north of 900 HP. If I cannot find a suitable forging or billet that can be bought resonable (yes a relative term), I then will more than likely go with a 429 truck crank. I just like building things once. I would rather spend a little more now in a crank for an engine I will likley have $20K invested into.

where do you get them and how much? and do they retain the 2.500 rod journals, and 3.000 mains

Talk to Adney Brown at Performance Crankshaft, He qouted me a stock stroke 460 steel crank at a good price for my blower motor, but from everything i've heard the stock crank will hold up to 900HP+ with a good tune, which in my opinion you cant make anything with that much HP and a bad tune live, so 900HP on an engine built the way it should be built either way! Apparently Ford used some good raw materials on their ****! High performance is the norm for a ford LOL!

The trouble with old dumptruck cranks, is how abuse have they seen. And how you gonna know how much lifes left in them after going to all that work!

Uh, because the engine they are in makes less than 300 hp, because the engine they are in revs less than 3500 rpm (and rarely that high), because steel has almost zero fatigue, and because the machine shop will perform a thorough inspection.

I am aware of offset ground 429 steel cranks holding more than 3 times that power level you noted. I've seen CAST 429 cranks holding almost double the horsepower you noted.

The 429 steel cranks are made of ASE 1053 steel, not even chromoly.

How much of a strength difference are we talking between the 3.85 and the 3.59 ? Has to be pretty minimal, especially if keeping the 2.5 rod journals.

The "three times the hp" example that I mentioned above had 2.200" rod journals and was offset ground to 4.125" stroke which means that the rod journals even had to be welded upon....and the crank worked without issue; it was in very capable and worthy hands. As in every situation, your results may vary but I think mutliple applicatons of these cranks have proven their capabilities over the decades.
