Domed Pistons $$$$$$$$$

Why is it that when you order piston and as soon as you say domed the price doubles? when you price out any flat top or dished piston the price's are reasonable. But say the dirty word and the price doubles. What's your guys take on this. I'm looking to build two motors. both are 4.440 bore and one is 4.140 stroke and the other is 4.150 both have 6.800 rods. both are also for the A460 heads?

Most domed pistons are custom where as there are dish and flat shelf pistons . Also , the SRP and Probepistons are not a full on race piston like the custom deals . The piston mfrs do go wild on the price when the word custom comes up .
Diamond has came up with a line of pre-engineered domed pistons for the A-460 style heads that will cover many applications that would have required a custom piston . They are a race piston , come with premium pins and are less money than a custom set . [email protected] , if you wish a quote .

Lem, have your tried a set of the diamond dome's in a set of "A" heads yet? I'd like to know what you think and how they fit?

Jerry,

Lem and I made bondo molds of the chambers for all the A-460 heads, meaning the EX 514, Eliminator, TFS A-460 and the old Motorsport A-460 heads. We cc'ed the chambers and included that data. We also marked the pin axis centerline and 12:00 to 6:00. Everything is referenced to the cylinder bore.

Anyway, we sent these molds to Eric at Diamond and Randy at JE, because Lem is a dealer for those two piston companies. As a result, I know Diamond has made some slight changes to their dome profile in order to improve things, and I think JE is refining theirs also. We're building a 572 CID engine right now with the Diamond pistons and TFS A-460 heads.

Hope this helps,

Charlie Evans

We mocked them up with my .050" cut heads and they hit in one very small area . I emailed Eric a pic and he has taken care of it .

I think the '66 Fairlane 500 may be happier with the TFS street or SCJs
