429 in 67 Mustang Hardtop

I'm new to this forum, I came across it serching for some info on 429/460 builds. I have a 67 Mustang. I got about 20 years ago. I put a stock 460 from a T-Bird in it in the early 90's. Later I built a 1970 429 for it which I have had in for about 10 years. It has Crites motor mounts, FPA headers, a C6 auto trans and a Lincoln Versailes 9" rear, Granada spindles, sub-frame connecters, aluminum drive shaft, Magnaflow SS mufflers, etc. The engine is a mild build-up. D0VE heads, 218/228 @0.050" & .509" lift cam, TRW Flat top forged pistons, Edelbrock Performer 460 intake, Holley 770 Street Avenger carb, Duraspark II ignition, MSD Blaster coil, double roller timing chain. It's a driver. I get about 13mpg with it so I need an OD trans someday. The car was a POS. I have replaced about every peice of sheet metal. I have a few pics here...

replaced the Tubular Automotive headers with FPA Shortys for ground clearance

here is a "BEFORE" photo. I paid $650 for the car in 1990

When I first got the car I replaced the floors, partial firewall, wheel wells, quarter panels, trunk lid, fenders and drivers door. I planned to go for the "Shelby" look.

It looked like this for a long time, kind of a Rat Rod before they were popular!

About 5 years ago, I got the urge to finish the bodywork. In fact, when the 05 Mustang Concept car was being displayed it really got me thinking about buying a new Mustang. My wife talked me into getting mine painted. I liked, or should I say "Loved" the Eleanor car look from the Gone in 60 Seconds movie. I decided to combine the movie car with Shelby and make my "Super Coupe"

The trunk floor was a little weak and so were the rear frame rails around the

shackels so it was time to replace more metal

the shock towers were pretty rusty too, everything forward of the firewall was cut off and replaced.

Now I could get back to the bodywork

Now I have to put it all back together!

then back to the bodyshop for wet sanding and buffing

Taking the car home again to finish all the little stuff, the guy on the right is my painter (Phillip) and on the left (Sammy) did the final prep bodywork, block sanding and stuff, after I roughed everything in.

Thanks everyone. I haven't had down the drag strip but I plan too. I need to do some tuning, maybe recurve the distributer. It's a great driver but traction limited! I have opentracked it at Nashville Super Speedway. It handles better than you would imagine! I have a pumpkin with 4:11's but right now I'm running the 2.79 open for the road and a stock torque converter. Not the best for drag racing. Needs bigger tires for sure!
I am glad it can serve as inspiration. It has been a project almost the entire time I have had it. Only looking good for just the last couple years. I did almost everything myself except final prep and paint. My wife did the seats and headliner. It's not a show car, it's a driver and it gets door dings and rock chips. I get a lot of compliments at shows bit not really won anything. We drive it everywhere so it has bug guts and road grime. I'm not one of those guys who cleans and polishes the car during a show. I like to look at everyone elses stuff! I'm glad others like but I built it for me and if it doesn't get a trophy at a show its no big deal.
