I was assuming that you purchased their kit. Here's how they describe their C6 500 HP rebuild kit:
Finally a complete do it yourself kit for a true high performance C6! This kit comes with all needed soft parts as well as very detailed instructions to show you how to modify your C6 for most any type of application. This kit includes all friction and steel plates, selective style steel plates, stepped pressure plate to add 1 extra friction in your direct drum, Carbon/Kevlar flex band, all gaskets and seals, #9 needle bearing kit, F ratio servo lever, complete thrust washer kit with selective washers, 5 stage shift kit, vacuum modulator, pump bushing, extension housing bushing, heavy gauge deep steel oil pan, filter and our technical manual with several photos and modifications explained even for the novice builder. All modifications can be done with a set of drills and a hand grinder. Please note some prior transmission rebuilding experience and special tools is recommended.
So they say that a novice can use their kit successfully but they hedge a bit saying that prior experience rebuilding transmissions is recommended. Thus, I'd be interested in your opinion as to the quality of the documentation provided. Could a novice actually pull this off successfully?
I'm running a C4 transmission and ordered parts that would handle much more power than my engine is currently making now. As my power level increases, so will the transmission mods.
My purchase included;
- welded 6 disk transbrake forward clutch assembly
- 6 disk intermediate clutch assembly with oiling mods
- transbrake valvebody
Locally I picked up the rest of the parts from a Trans Star dealer in town, besides the PA hardened input shaft, which I picked up from summit racing.
Jay from Broader does supply a spec sheet with recommended clearances, end play and band adjustments with his parts.
A manual that explains teardown and rebuild is a must...just plug in the supplied clearances specs vs. what the manual calls for. A C4 is a fairly easy transmission to rebuild.
Quality of Broaders parts are top notch, and I will be buying from them again! Don't expect to get parts overnight. They are built per order.
I'm as novice as they come...This is my first transmission rebuild. So far, I've put about 200 hard miles on it...Soon enough, I'll have the transbrake hooked up, and we'll see if I've done everything right.
