Project CORN BINDER sleeper RAT.

HI all.
Been working on the 545 stroker (using a Scat kit) in my 64 IH truck. (did a complete brake rebuild from pedal to wheels). Re-warped the headers and had enough to do the starter, painted the block (ignore the motor mount its getting replaced), cylinders honed, piston rings file gaped, Piston are Mahle and have a coating on the sides and a short side skirt to prevent side ware. also been sanding on the truck to give it that old unfinished Rat sleeper look.
It was a 14 sec. 1/4 with just the 466 (with a weak tune) in it can't wait to see what I get with the 545 and a stall converter.
take care
tim

OH CRAP Almost blew it.. Good thing I keept looking at orientation I was looking at the head backwards. I had the piston's on the rods wrong.. the valve notch would not have matched.. luckily I only had 3 of the slugs in when I noticed it.. and I was trying so hard to do it right the first time.. Seam like I have to do and re-do things.... Also messed up on the first one and broke a ring CRAP Should have known something was up then... Seam like the last time I built a motor I did the same thing (braking a ring) you'd think I'd remember and not do that again.. anyway going to have to see if i can get a new single set of rings from Mahle.. or maybe my machinist can find me one??
Take care
tim

Don't feel lonely! Way WAY back,a friends dad bought this 63 Galaxie,3 deuces,4 speed ,pretty cool. As I later found out,it was a 406 405hp FE. Motor needed rebuilding so we started in. Being as we were good chevy guys at the time, installed pistons in the same order as sbc. Ran like a sob for about 1/2 hr. Locked up tight and the old man hid the car. As time past,it never resurfaced.Wish I could find it today.
The binder....love it! Not much of a problem having the nicest IH 4 dr short box truck in the crowd for sure.

That is a cool old truck. I don't think I've ever seen a quad cab one of those before. Keep the updates & pic's coming!

WoW.. JUst WoW..
Just took a good look at the Heads. Brand new Edelbrock's RPM's. They look like crap.. BIG gouges in the Intake ports, crappy large angle at the end of exhaust ports gouged in, and there NOT squaire across the bottom?? Bolt hole washer base has curled up aluminum around it, drain back holes also have curled up aluminum around thats going to hold oil back. Even the cut out for the springs has just pieces chipped out not fully cleaned up?? I'm going to check them tomorrow to see if the valves seal or not??
If they don't I'll let you know..

Hi, Really... Summit told me that that is just the casting clean up on the ports??? really big gouges is clean up.. and want to charge me 20% restocking fee??? because before I notice the problem I had clear coated them with header paint.... Please look at the picture and tell me if these are normal for Edelbrock RPMs. The gouges are like 1/16 deep.
Thanks
tim

Post these pic's in the engine tech section and you will get a lot better response. I've never used Edelbrock heads but my P-51's didn't look like that. I'm thinking they are fine though. It is hard for me to see the pic's but it might be worth disassembling them and cleaning up any of the Aluminium that should have come off but didn't. You don't want anything coming off later and floating around in the oil.

Looks like you are good to go with those. No reason to return them. I knew you would get a lot more responses in the engine tech section.

HI All, Slow process ..but getting near the end. here are a few more pictures of progress.. got the carb back from the carb shop.. I hope its good to go.. He said it has some big jets 85 and 75 ( I think he said) and large squirters in it Hope its not too much for the 545.

Painted my wheels for rat look didn't want to use the little triangle to set off the wheels so I painted like a hatchet LOL, screwed up and used two different kinds of paint I think so when I put on a clear coat it wrinkled the paint. Kind of looks cool so I'll try and keep it.. LOL..

wanted to have the broken hood look so I made up some spacers and jacked up the back end.It don't look like much there is only an 1/8 differences between one end and the other, working on repairing that hole in the fender
