67 Galaxie 460 swap

Good evening everyone, figured I should start a build thread for my car. I am well under way so not a whole lot of pictures from the beginning. Started out with a 2dr 67 Galaxie 500 with a 390. The car was black on black with a bench seat. Purchased a convertible that had buckets and a console for the interior. My grandad had a 460/C6 that he pulled from an old 250 Camper Special and had it rebuilt stock about 10 yrs ago. After it was done being rebuilt it sat in an old container waiting for the day to be dropped in a new ride.
He wanted to put it in this Galaxie so that’s where I came in. This is the largest project I have taken on and I am loving it. Learning a whole lot of things on the way.
So through research and talking to some guys on here I got hooked up with The Mad Porter, Scotty hooked me up with some SCJ heads, a cam, and the Valve train goodies.
As far a mounts I went with the Crites mounts along with a set of their headers.
I have gotten a lot of great info from a build page 66galaxieproject.com, that guy has a very extensive build page with part numbers included!

Disc brake conversion, notched the front of the cross member to make room for the canton pan I used, it’s still very close, probably should he gone with the Milodon pan for more clearance. But it works. And welded the OE mounting holes for the OE mounts.

Some frame rot in the left rear, before and after. This car also had major rot in the front, the frame was cut out and new tubing welded in.

Frame all painted up

Front disc conversion, bought the springs for a 7litre

Rear end in the frame

My son, brushing the lifter journals.

Block back from the machine shop, has some new cam bearings installed, and the block decked .030 to bring pistons out of the hole. Installed ARP Studs for the mains.

My son torquing the trans pan bolts.

Had the C6 rebuilt with a shift kit and an R code servo. Running a 3200 stall Summit torque converter.

Fitting the crites headers I ran into a clearance issue for the #8 tube. Had to do some heating and pinging. I also did a little fileing on the steering box to gain a little more clearance. I am going to swap out the hex head bolts in the steering box for some countersink flat headed bolts. The bolt that is under the header tube is hitting. For the sake of the picture and fitting the bolt was removed.

Obviously well thought out. Nice attention to detail.
No doubt some will want to speculate as to how this performs vis-a-vis the more typical 427 Galaxie 500 route.

Yeah,the 427 is cool enough but Capps will get twice the power with half the money over FE stuff.

DCapps,really nice work. You shooting for the sleeper look or the blower sticking out of the hood type of deal?

It will be more along the sleeper line, as long as it fits.....

Thanks for the comments, today I got the right side valve train in, started fitting the valve covers, and making my plug wires. I am using blue thunder cast covers which need a little modding to fit. Putting plug wires in a chrome set of looms. Still waiting on my intake. It was projected to ship today.

Don't know what intake you got but the Torker 2 has the best performance when hood clearance is an issue.

Got my left side valve train in today, got valve covers fitted, started on the March serpentine setup. And plug wires all finished and fitted.

I originally ordered the Torker II but got talked out of it and into an RPM Airgap. That was my reason for choosing the Torker in the first place was it’s lower profile. Might have to get a Tear drop for it, that’s to be determined.

March kit installed, replaced hex bolts in steering box with some stainless countersank bolts for some more clearance for the #8 header tube.
