screws,nuts and washers

hey guys,
When assembling a race car I want to know what combination of screws,nuts and washers you use.items like fuel cell, driveshaft loop,seat mounts,battery brackets, fuel pumps, filter brackets, etc. how do you fasten them. I need to keep the weight as low as possiable.

screw,2 flat washers( 1 on each side) lock washer, and nut.
screw, 2 AN flats,lockwasher, nut.
screw, flats,locknut.
screw no washers, locknut.

Want to keep it simple, durable and safe.
weight and durable are top priorities, less weight for speed and durable because I ahve raced it on and off for 20 years and plan on 20 more.

I use grade 8 bolts and washers everywhere I can....Nylock nuts on everything. Washers on both sides if possible.
Durability will trump weight savings every time, the way I see it.

yes i have been using the grade 8 hardware but it just seemed like overkill with those big ugly SAE flat washers.
I bite the bullet and bought some AN (aircraft/military spec) SS flat washers in 1/4,5/16,3/8,7/16,1/2 sizes. The washer OD is only slightly bigger than the screw head, looks much better, and can use them in tight places like on my scattershield. Will use lock nuts also, but i havent found any grade 8s.

This may not be directly answering your question, but I have found a great assortment of nuts, bolts, washers, rubber (vibration isolation), threaded weldnuts, ect at www.mcmastercarr.com. They have threaded tabs you can weld onto the chassis so you don't need a nut on the backside. I have found (and bought ) lots of stuff I never knew existed before I found that website. It has made my current build easier to fabricate and better looking (IMHO).
