Diff gears

Car is Falcon XB coupe, similar to 71 mustang weigh about 3700pound.
Engine 460,671 enderly injection running on methanol,C6 box,29 X 12 Slicks
Unsure on my diff gears,I took my car to drags last w/end first time in about 10 years.
First run did half track,
Second run I ran 10.14 @ 129mph.I had backed off before finish line as I wanted to make sure car would pull up ok,which it did.
I had done complete run in drive as (found out next day I hadn't cable tied shifter cable above exhaust & melted it)
I only saw shift light come on (6000rpm) in top gear about 50-80 metre from finish line.
After run I had blew exhaust gasket after couple bolts came loose which ended that night.
My ? is if I need smaller (3.5 gears)
Will be taking car out soon once fix up
Thanks Steve

Need to determine what gear you have now and get several good passes down track before any suggestions can be given.

If you're not living on the edge you're taking up too much space!

You say you bumped the 6K limiter with a 3.90 gear and a 29" tire? I used to run a truck with a 29" tire, 4.10 gears and went through the traps @ about 6,200. That's not turning even a close to stock 460 too tight.

Talking

Turn her up and let her eat. You need to twist it harder than that.

It was 1st time at track, was planning on gear change at 6000,as camshaft is a bit small & powerband is from 2500 - 6000rpm.I have rev limiter set at 7000.
I have steel rods but standard crank also.
Thanks Steve.

With that much weight more gear is probably in order
