What RPM for Shift Light

At what RPM should I be shifting?

460 d3 block and heads, .545 lift cam, stock rebuilt bottom end, edelbrock performer intake with edelbrock 750 carb, 9.5:1 compression, 3.54 gears, 28/10.50-15 slicks

i would start at 5400 rpms or a little lower

I'm guessing the engine hasn't been dyno'd so you're not sure of the power band. Are you running it on a drag strip or do you have access to one?

If so than you could start with the shift light at say 5,000. Make a pass down the track and establish baseline E.T. and MPH. Move the shift light up by 200 RPM and go again. See if the car gets faster. Keep bumping the shift light for each pass until the car levels off and doesn't get any faster. That's where you can set your shift light.
