Nitrous and fuel questions

Okay this is my first post so bare with me please

I purchased a turn key 79 F150 short box with a FRPP 521 with some top end mods, none of it documented. Waiting for winter to do the tear down. The questions I have are it is set up with a 350 shot of nitrous and necessary controllers. The controller only reads up to 11 degree retard, should it not be more like 12 degrees?

From what I've read on here 350 shot sounds like way more than this unit is built for and I don't want to burn it out first time out!

The truck is built for mud drags, the previous owner was running Q16 and was only running it because that's what he was told to do. I need a little more than that to pay the big dollars when the engine is only 10.5:1. Best I can come up with is because of the unknown tune it is the best way to cover my butt.

I guess my other question is, what would be the best choice of fuel if I remove the NOS or say I went down to a 150-200 shot so that my controller is in working range.

I prefer C16 vs Q16 on the NOS motor. May be my preference though. I would definitely take it down to a 150 and start there to save yourself some money. At 10-1 i dont see why a 110 octane wouldnt do you fine. When you say the controller only reads 11 deg? What controller are you talking about? an msd retard box ? Remember you can always knock the base timing down to get the same effect as a higher retard #.

i would start at a much lower NO2 HP setting than just starting off with a 350hp shot, then just slowly work/tune your way up to your desired level. 350hp shot of spray can destroy a motor if only slightly mis-tuned. rule of thumb is 2* for every 50hp of spray.

the previous owner probably ran VP NO2 fuel which is an oxygenated fuel made to run with large amounts of spray, and with that much juice i would run the same thing, even with only your 10.5:1 comp.

I don't really know how to tell what kind of hit this thing is set up for so I went and pulled solenoid and tip numbers. Haven't had a chance to look them up yet, maybe you recognize them
Fuel side solenoid-tip. Nitrous express 15201L/Tip is NOS 116
Gas side solenoid-tip. Nitrous express 15200L/Tip is NOS 120

Gonna check this out and see what it is for sure
On another note there is no gauge on the NOS fuel regulator, should it also be set for 6.5-7psi?

Sorry forgot about the msd retard box. I didn't grab the part number but it only goes to 11 degrees and was cranked way past. I would like to run multiple classes so I will probably look for a controller that allows the freedom, but thats not gonna happen right away. I think i'lltake the advice and knock down to around 150 shot and check the tune from there

I don't think VP No2 is oxygenated, q16 is.

When to much is just right

just checked VP, i stand corrected. its leaded not oxygenated. the speed shop where i buy it told me it was oxygenated, i assumed he knew what he was talking about.

The first thing you should do is have your system flowed. It sounds like you may be starting on a learning curve. The person you hire to flow it can be a geat help.

This is all new to me for sure. I looked up the part numbers on those solenoids and such and the NO2 side solenoid orfice is only 0.093 so I dont see what good a 0.120 nozzle will do.
What do you mean by flow test? what special equipment does that require?
Probably looking at dyno time I'm guessing to get it right on the first time
