How Much Clearance Above Carb Vent Tubes?

Without going to a 5" or 6" cowl hood HO Fibertrends has a nice hood that will
give me 1/2 clearance above the vent tubes..He said he has seen fast cars run
with less..The vent tubes are 1-1/2 inch above the carb..His hood will give 1/2 above vent tubes..Anybody know about what clearance i can get away with ??

clearance

I say any clerance would be ok as to not plug the vents. They allow air in and out of the fuel bowl as needed. If they became pluged you would pressurize the bowl as force fuel out the carb.

I had a 1/2 clearance and had the tubes cut at a angle, car ran fine, but at 130mph the air pressure on the hood pushed it down and the car would lay down. I changed everything in the car trying to fix it. Happen to see a picture of the car at the big end of the track with the hood bowed down,(fiberglass hood). Made a little bracket to go over the carb so the hood could not push down, fixed the problem.
