Infineon Race

Here is what happened with the Lager Diabla Mercury this weekend:

Qualified First

Finished Second

I think some of you might get a kick out of the qualifying session.

The race video is quite long - about half the 30 minute event. However, the start was one of my better ones, so check that out.

Much of the race was spent trying to stay ahead of Robert Stefanowicz and his super fast 911. Since staying in front of Robert for more than a fraction of a lap is new for me, I had to include about as much as YouTube would allow. The spin occurred in lap 13 of 17. Robert and I were far enough ahead of the rest that he is the only one on the same lap that got by me when it happened.

Matt,

Cool video. I like how you have the rpm and mph showing. If you didn't have that info showing, you wouldn't think you're going that fast. I like how fast you go from 80 to 130 mph.

Thanks for sharing,

Dave

Laguna Laps

I run a TraqMate system, which has accelerometer, GPS, and a tach input, which is from the MSD. It also can accommodate a several analog inputs, but I have not done much with it in that regard. Traqmate also provides software the enables fairly easy synchronizationswith video.

Last month we went down to Laguna, but the gear box timed out in the first lap of the qualifying session and we did not have enough spares to race.

I usually run old tires during practice just to get reacquainted with the track and make sure everything is working. I also tend to be give a lot of room to other racers during the practice session because they to may have just rolled off the trailer and may be dealing with surprises, so practice lap times are never very quick. However, this time the speeds between some of the corners during the practice session were the highest I have recorded at that track. Link to video is below. The front stretch at Laguna is not entirely flat, but it gives a perspective of how quick the car is from 50 to 140 (in the video, the second time down the front stretch is a little quicker). It get's going pretty good for its weight, which is nearly two tons with driver an a full 32 gallons of fuel.
