X275 Ideas

Got new build 514 NOS motor that I've been sitting on a long time and am thinking of using soon. Prob is its got these old Motorsport heads, been worked till they bled but they are what they are. Thing is, before I spend all the money to build custom headers I would just assume have the best heads I can legally run in 275 and build the headers to that. I am guessing the 18 bolt Trick flow is the way to go but I need experienced input here. Figure I'd have to change Pistons, cam and intake, swap the fogger stuff over. What else? Am I on right track?

We have a local guy that has a 514 with A429 heads compression unknown but it has a custom solid roller in the 760 range in a 93 lx hatch it runs on the bottle he will put down some 5.50s on a good night.

Hope this helps you some, sorry I really don't have a lot of info on the car other than that.

Tag and ins it's a street car, how it gets there does it really matter?

Nobody's perfect but if u drive a ford your darn close.

You are headed in the right direction with swapping everything over then.

Pull a piston check top of piston to first ring land and valve pocket depth you might be able to fly cut the pistons you already have to work with the new heads.

.300 thick minimum from top of piston to first ring land don't forget to take valve depth out.

you said that you have "OLD MOTORSPORTS" heads, well which ones??? are they the A-429's or are they the A-460's, they both will work, I have a friend that has a 521 with a solid roller in the 750/760 range and A-429's in a 69 mach 1 that has a PG tranny and 9" slicks and weighs over 3200 w/driver and it runs 5:80's on motor so if the heads are worked well they will work too.

Pick up the Car craft mag and look at Jim/Jimmy Plimptons Fairmont write up in it. Thay have a BES BBF with 1,100+ without spray and serious juice on top of that. They have gone 4.70s at 150 at legal X275 rules. They have A heads. It is not an easy feat with the weight of a BBF up front! It's a badass ride for sure.
