Attention - Password and Security Update

Hello all,

Over the next few days we will be implementing some changes to our forum password strength and password expiration policies. To make sure you continue having the best experience possible on the community, we regularly monitor the site and the Internet to keep everyone's account information safe. We've recently become aware of a potential risk to some accounts coming from outside of this community. Just to be safe, we are implementing the following changes to improve security even further:

1) We are asking everyone to change their passwords (and will force a one time reset). Along with every user on the forum, new passwords will need to be more complex, and can't be simple words (sorry, you can't have "fluffy" as your password anymore!). Please use a password unique to this community. Reusing passwords can expose your account indirectly when other websites (Twitter, Linkedin, Badoo, etc) are compromised; and

2) Your passwords will expire on a 365 day basis. When you login on the 366th day, you will have to change it.

We'll also be sending out an email to users to let them know about the changes, in upcoming weeks.

Thanks all,

Helena

Password Requirements: W.T.F??

Come on... This is stupid. Change the Admin users passwords with the requirements listed on the password edit page. Don't make regular users have to have all of those requirements. This is a forum for motors. This is NOT a banking website or anything that holds personal or financial info. This site is all for fun. Why make it harder for users to get in?

I hit this site from all over the country on many different computers. Now I'm going to have to remember a 10 digit password with special characters, upper & lower case letters and numbers?? REALLY??

Get a grip people. This is ridiculous!! Back off and stand down.

IF ANY OTHER USERS AGREE WITH ME THEN POST A REPLY THAT SIMPLY SAYS "I AGREE".

Perhaps we have the power to fix this. Time will tell.

I agree.......The first password they sent me wouldn't work.......then when I tried to contact them through the provided link it said it was a bad url address......finally after 30 minutes I finally got in and changed my password. Now I read this that I have to come up with a new password every year??????? WTF I've had the same password for years with no problems......

More Info & My Rant Continues

Please see the above post and reply with "I AGREE" if you do agree.

More Info:

Question for the Owners/Administrators of the site:

Please explain the "security issue" stated in the pop up we received after logging in. Below is that message.

Statement to the Users of this site:

There is no security issue. They want us to forget our passwords so we have to use the password reset feature on this site that forces us to watch a commercial video in order to get the security key. In other words the owners of this site are making money by inconveniencing us, the users.

When I got home tonight I naturally couldn't remember any 10 character password with all the other stupid crap that was in there. So I had to go through the password reset process so I could log in on my home computer. That is how I found the video commercial password reset process.

There is a counter on the other end of that video player. It knows how many times a commercial video is played from this website and the owners get paid.....by making you do something you really shouldn't have to do. ...each time you have to do it. We are a bunch of sheep here people and we are being herded towards the commercial corral.

For whatever reason this tactic just offends the heck out of me. I may have to take my build thread to another site.

Garage
c'mon Sharf, it's not that big of a deal.

There's no sinister plot to make everyone watch more adds. It's the way of the world now, and it was a global change effecting several sites they own (I only know that because there are other boards I frequent with the same password reset going on).

Copy the temporary password from the email you received, click the link in the email, paste the temporary password in the space provided on the page that pops up, enter the new password of your choice in the appropriate place (like 460'sRULE! or something) and carry on as normal.
