I have a D0VE-A block I'm interested in shipping several states away for machining, looking for any advice on which shipping service would be best to use, forward air, UPS heavy, Fed-Ex heavy etc.

Thanks

Be wary of Forward Air.. for me, the closest terminal was 1 hour away. Also in Boston.. Ever heard of the Big Dig? Even POLICE OFFICERS couldn't figure out the way to get my father and I there. I don't want to say I'm a country bumpkin but.. things that happened to us on the way there.. 79F100 with a 25 foot trailer (I was picking up a LARGE crate of Torino parts).

1. Lost a ramp from the trailer on the highway.
2. Passed said ramp three times as we went in circles trying to figure out where we were going. (It wasn't in such a place that I could get out and retrieve it, trust me I tried).
3. Ended up down a few side streets that mapquest said were the way.. but not with construction.
4. One street had a bunch of double parked cars.. Guess what we did
5. Almost lost a trailer tire on the way home. Lugs wouldn't stay tight.

No more Forward Air for me, I'll spend the extra $100 to have it delivered home.

Look into Conway, UPS Freight (formerly Overnite), FedEx Freight, BAX Global Freight. These are some of the few shippers that do not share freight with other people. If it gets loaded into one of their trucks it comes out of it on the other end. Others like Southeastern, Saia, Yellow, Gator, Dugan, etc... might pick up but it will get delivered by someone else on the other end if they have no depot nearby.

FWIW, I recently had a shortblock shipped to the depot by my house from Wisconsin for $225. This was my Dad's discount at Conway. I got about a hundred dollar break. Most places will charge $50 -100 bucks for a liftgate truck to deliver it to you.
