i have been very thankful for any info given as i am a retired chef and my engine knowledge is limited. i have a 1975 town car with 208 factory hp and 350 ft/lbs tor. i ma been looking to build a stronger but reliable 460 for my car. i stumbled onto a 1970 460 . had it tore down and the machine shop has told me that they do nto recomend teraing down the short block as the walls do not have a ridge and compression was right whee it shuld be. they told me to re asemble with new oil pump and gasket set and let her go. doing reseach i have decided to go with the eddlbrock profomrace kit [ cam intake and carb] msd distrib and eddlebrock alum water pump. i already have new raditior adn heater core so that the entire coling system willbe new. here is my question. the power pack kit is Edelbrock 7166PK. the engine has 10.5 compression. with the added parts i have listed i am guessing it to be around 425 hp and 575 torq. does this sound right? the current 460 is gutless and i think this should be more than enuff power to make it get up to seepd and cruise at 70 on the highway with plenty of power to spare. does my numbers sound right? sorry i am a bad typer and i am more or less guessing by the advertisements given. i am going out ofthe country for a week and when i return i will be ordering the parts. thansk for any and all advice and checking to see if my numbers are correct..........sam

Hey Sam;

Contact one of the vendors on this site and discuss your project with them. They know the 460 engine inside out. Do as they say and buy the parts you need from them or where they tell you to buy them. You will be happier. When you cook, you want the food to come out right, don't you? Same in this situation.

Assuming your short block has the original 11 cc dished pistons and 10.5 to 1 nominal static c/r the smallish cam in the performer package will have such a high dynamic compression ratio that the combo will NOT be happy on pump premium.

Best course of action is to get 22 cc dished pistons and set them at 0 deck for 9.75 to 10 to 1 static c/r depending on chamber size.

219/227 voodoo cam on a 111 or 112 lobe sep for an 8.5 to 1 DCR.
Performer intake and 750 carb.
Properly curved duraspark distributor.
Headers and free breathing duals.

With unported heads expect 360 hp and with properly ported small valve heads you can expect 425 to 440 HP and about 530 ish torque.

We have repeatedly utilized this combo in heavy full sized fords with great results...

As installed the original 365 hp high compression 460 in reality made about 320 hp with factory duals, ignition curve and 600 cfm carb.
