I can get one dirt cheap...guy says it was running when pulled, but smokes. Is this year engine worth buying for a future build????

The guy said it ran when pulled, but burned oil. I can get it for $50, minus carb and starter. But he didnt know what stock heads are on it.

Carb? if its a factory carb'd engine it would be E6TE or E8TE (non EFI heads).
equivilent to D3 heads.

For that money, if it has all the bracketry and other accessories... and the undesirable D2VE heads... it is still worth it, imo. You can pull 50 bucks worth of hardware off of it. All you can expect is that it needs bored and another set of heads, depending on your wants and needs, and that is stuff you are likely going to do in a real rebuild anyways.
