I've decide to build a BBF for our 81 stang coupe.
I have a 1972 429 shortblock to start with.
As much as I would like to build a huge stroker with a solid roller cam and stage 3 blue thunder heads we just cant afford it. So we have kind of decided on this
.060 460 flat top pistons, stock rods(resized, shotpeened, and good bolts) and 460 crank(everything balanced) Edelbrock perf rpm heads, intake and cam with long tube fox chassis swap headers with 2 in primaries. Ignition is all MSD and carb will be a holley pro series 850 cfm DP. I was thinking maybe slightly more cam....the FRPP C460 cam(244/254/.588/.614) as the perf rpm cam seems a bit mild. Anyone have a combo like this? Any 460 fox chassis street stang owners out there? Would like to run frame mounted motor mounts. Any advice would be must appreciated.

Everything sounds real nice, well matched. The bigger cam will be fine, especially with the light car. BUT, let us know the gears and stall you'll be using, the cam won't work with the wrong driveline combo. The stock rods are good to 6000rpm with good prep, you're a little borderline if you use the bigger cam as it will want to rev to 6000rpm, probably more.

You can buy the eagle h-beam rods for about the same price as it will cost to do the stock rods.

Thanx guys....I may use the old 292 mag comp cam. Have had good luck with that old line of cam in smallblocks and unfortunately they don't have the new Extreme Energy line of cams in hyd flat tappet for the 385 series yet. Car has an 8.8 with 4.10s right now. Tranny would be a C6. No converter purchased yet

I have the same combo, except ported C8VE heads instead of the edelbrocks.
forged dished pistons
Wiend 8012(Stealth)
850DP
MSD Dig 6 plus
C6 - 3500 stall

M6250-C460 cam

I have to say I am not a fan of the cam. Sure it makes 535 HP in the ford 460 CJ crate motor. But it has 95 degrees of overlap. It doesn't make peak power until 6300 rpm. And it has a peaky torque curve.

If I could do it over. I would of changed the cam. Which I am in the process of doing now. Hell even a Comp 292H has a better torque curve. i have done alot of mock up combos on Dyno2000. So I don't know how realiable it is, but I figure it can't be too far off in comparing combo to one another on the same program.

So I guess what I'm recommending is, choose a different cam.
