OK ... recently I have had a barrage of PM's asking about the particulars of the 429 engine I entered in last years EMC.
I answered a couple however, this is getting old, fast. SO, I will post all the information here.

Block = D1VE 4.395" bore
Crank = production car 429 crank, 3.594" stroke
Rods = production "marine" rod with ARP bolts and bushed small end.
Pistons = Diamond "Custom" dished, multiple intake notches for head testing.
Head Gaskets = FRPP
Compression Ratio = 10.44/1
Intake Manifold = TFS "Track Heat", ported to CJ size and Dominator carb flange.
Heads = Kaase P-51 or CNC'd FRPP SCJ's (were both the same score)
Camshaft = CompCams "Custom" FL7133/XX7136 -
280°/286°@.020" - 251°/256°@.050" - .371"/.378" lobe lift - 107° seperation;
installed @98° intake centerline.
Rocker Arms = Crane/FRPP - 1.8/1 intake, 1.73/1 exhaust
Timing Set = Cam Research externally adjustable cam drive.
Water Pump = Meziere
Dampner = FRPP
Oil Pan = R.M. Competition "Marine" front sump.
Oil Pump = 1" thick rotor, production truck style M-84D
Carburetor = Excessively modified Holley #8896
Carb Spacer = JOMAR 1" thick, 4 hole, tappered transition

Cylinder Head Flows, Averaged all 8 =
INTAKE
.100" 72.3
.200" 165.1
.300" 253.4
.400" 331.8
.500" 383.2
.600" 404.8
.700" 399.6

EXHAUST (no pipe)
.100" 55.5
.200" 107.5
.300" 144.3
.400" 175.1
.500" 204.4
.600" 228.0
.700" 239.8

Randy I believe every hp and torq #s I keep saying heads are everthing a simple build like this with good heads will make alote of hp Joe.

The MPG piece, (actually Cam Research is another division), is a good piece and uses a normal true-roller timing chain. Installation requires a bit of mechanical aptitude.
Piston speed - which is the combination of maximum RPM level and stroke length - along with riciprocating weight will determine what is necessary for strength with a connecting rod.

A stock MARINE rod is plenty strong for that application. The amount of power doesn't matter as a connecting rod is stressed the most in it's EXTENSION not it's compressive mode. AND, these were brand new rods with absolutely NO cycle time.

This combination is less piston speed, (only 65fps), than most production engines and at a lot less reciprocating weight.

Randy, thanks for the reivew on the piston weight and rod speed.
When I copy your 429cj build, is a truck rod same as the marine?
I have a brand new set of truck rods I would like too use if applicable.

A Marine rod is a truck rod which has been factory magnafluxed to be sure of no flaws.

Nice numbers! What would cause the dip in torque from 2800-3700? I'm assuming the carb isn't a vac. secondary. Just about forgot to say thanks for all you share!

Dave hit the nail on the head ... a two plane intake manifold gets rid of that dip and also about 60 horsepower.

The P-51 heads I tried were pretty much stock, just smoothed-out the rough edges where their "out of the box" CNC lines mated to the bare casting.

Either ... it's about WAVE tuning, not air flow.
