I have read some are getting by with 26" slicks in the low 10's with no problems. I wonder if I should consider a 26 or stay with a 28.

I have an 85 Mustang with stock wheel tubs, that have to remain stock. I would like to get the rear of the car lower. I think I can get 1" off with some adjustment to the ladder bar setup, but that will be it.

Currently I am running stock 2.3L springs all the way around. Stock style shocks in front, Olds shocks in the back, and ladder bars. At 11.40 the suspension worked great. I estimate it had 480hp, but should be 700 when done. The car should be 2850 at most with me in it.

Do you think the 26's will work on that car? In all likely hood I will have to change suspension components but will run it to see what it needs first. You think I can get it tuned in on 26's without drastic $$$ on suspension?

700hp on 26" slicks would be tough. Go with the 28", and I think you'll be a lot happier. The trouble is, those cars weren't really made for 28, 26 fit a lot better, but that's a problem with all the mustangs.

I have always done the 28" If I want it lower I will have to roll the lip on the rear quarter, I am not sure how much I can get even then.

I am not sure I can gain anything by smashing the wheel well in on this car. The clearance issue is where the shocks/springs mount and the tub curves out, not the corners.

The entire suspension may need changed to go as low as I wish.

Best advise I or ANYBODY can give....

Buy the BEST shocks AND struts you can get and test, test, test, test, and then test some more.

If guys can go [email protected] on 26x 8.5's, eighth mile, you shouldn't have any problems with running the 26's. Look at the "outlaw" NMRA Real Street times, 9.40's with a 5 speed!!!! they only get a 26x10 to run on......
