My Ranger has decided to kaput on me. I was looking for something with good mpg since I travel far to work.

I still have my 1990 Ford Bronco. It has a 4.9L with a 5spd manual transmission. I was wanting toget 20mpg+ if possible but I don't know if this is possible.
Everyone was telling me my Ranger would get 18mpg at best or less....and it had a 4 cylinder in it!

Anyone know what MPG I should get with my Bronco?

yep, 4wd with 275 35 15 tires (not big mudders, as that kills mpg) should get about 18 in good running condition if you go 60mph for the most part.

I got 19mpg with my 89 F-150 2wd with 4.9 and 5 speed shifting it at 1750rpm's, this was the best I could get out of it with it running it's best. shifting at 2500 rpm's would net 12 mpg city/hwy. Funny thing was that it would get 19mpg towing a car trailer down the highway with my mustang on the trailer. My truck had 3.08's with 31x10.5's.

12-15 at the very best, geared for 4 wheel drive, different than a 2 wheel drive pickup and heavier.
there are guys on fullsizebronco tuning these up and getting 20+ mpg out of a 4x4. But you gotta REALLY keep your foot out of it.

That being said, my single cab shortbed f150 with 9" of lift and 36x15.50s with a 4.9L/zf5/bw1356 and 3.55s in the axles, would get 12-15.

When I had it on 32s, it got almost 18.

MY 4CLY RANGER STICK GOT 28 , 415 MILES 15GAL TANK,WITH A LITTLE ROOM TO SPARE,

the 4.9 300 six does great if its carbed, the efi is worst then a 302efi. we did a lot of tests on these when they switched the 300 to efi, shame, but because of tail pipe test the 300 lost to the 302
