I found a set of 429 CJ heads for $450 with a fresh rebuild. would they be better the my D3's that are ported with dual valve springs? I have flat top pistons .03 over and its going in a 69 mustang with a c-6. any help would be great .Thanks

If it's a street vehicle ... certainly not.

Would that be because of the heads chamber volume and flat top pistons? Just wondering.:)

It's because the intake ports are so large, it takes a lot of cubes to make them work at low RPM's. In a race applications with 429 or 460 cubic inches, you need to wind it up to get the heads working. Even Ford, back in the day, recommended ported D0VE's as an upgrade over CJ heads for street\strip action.
I bet once you got that engine moving enough air to make those heads do what they do at the lift they do it at, you wouldn't like driving that engine on the street much. I've never owned a set of these or anything, but from everything I've read, lots of rpm or a big motor or both and not with a subtle camshaft. You can make a bunch of power with your d3s.

If those are actual D0OE-R heads for 450$, I'll buy them.
429 CJ and 351Cleveland 4V head with the ports are to big for the street is-- BS
