460 385 series engine build

So here is what I have.
It is a 385 series 460/429 block and a CJ intake manifold. With D3VE-A2A heads...which i have ported and polished...
I'm going to be dropping it into a 1977 AMX Hornet...I'm going to be using the original manual transmission which is a ford 4 speed top loader...and a 9 in rear end that came out of a 63 Galaxy...my budget is somewhat limited...just because I'm in Canada and the money conversion kinda sucks...but I am thinking around $2000...and I'm looking for advice on what I should use to build it. There are so many options for building it...and I'm just looking to make it a mild sleeper.

Thank you.

Hi Tim

I didn't put enough information on the first post I had made...And I do apologize for that...So I reposted it with the proper info...
I'm just looking for advice on what I should use... for what I'm looking to do...I just want to put together a little sleeper for my Hornet.
So any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Glenn
The $2000 budget is somewhat restrictive; it might be beneficial to put a small stroker in it, perhaps 500 cubic inches or so.
Sleeper on $2000? Good cam choice, good fuel, and learn nitrous. Go play. Keep saving, and with experience under your belt, you'll know where to spend more savings in the most beneficial way.

Custom cam and port the D3's (PPAM's website), headers, used Performer RPM intake manifold, 850cfm carb, and a nitrous kit... just be prepared to pick up 4speed parts off the pavement. 😎

Well, once you start adding things up, you're going to run out of Schlitz pretty soon...

Do you have a carb? If not, find a lightly used one and rebuild it yourself. What are you going to do for exhaust? The Hornet is a light car and it's fairly small, too, so now is the time to start thinking about exhaust because custom headers would kill your budget. What ignition are you going to run? Do you already have it? Are the heads already assembled with springs and valves? If you're on a budget, I wouldn't worry about roller rockers; they're not going to make you go any faster. Do you need to buy pistons? Does the block need to be overbored? Are you going to pay to have the block and crank magged? Did you mag the heads before you ported them? Will the crank need to be ground undersized and polished? Have you checked the deck? Are your valve guides good? Are you installing new cam bearings? Lots of questions to answer here.

FYI - I try to do as much as I can myself -- I have a magnaflux yoke, a precision ground straightedge to check straightness on block and heads, install my own cam bearings, I polish crankshafts with a shoelace and 600 grit, etc. Good way to learn about how things are done and save $ too.

Anyway, post up some responses on where you are now and then we can help you spend your $2000...
