Leaves the door wide open with that question... What is your intended use? What kind of vehicle is it in? Are you gonna make other changes, intake, carb, headers?? What kind of tranny does your ride have? Rear gearing? If it's a truck what size tires are you gonna go with? See camshaft selection opens up a big can of worms on this subject...

Sorry for the lack of info, it's in an 18' jet boat with A impeller with center riser aluminum exhaust headers. Intake is a performer and will possibly be upgraded with carb. Light, fast boat with standard engine.

K, I can't speak to any options on boats, actually I'm pretty ignorant when it comes to that subject, but we do have a few boating experts around if one of them might chime in I'm sure you'll get some good advice on your upgrades!! Good luck with your build!!

Assuming flat top pistons and ported heads with the original and RPM intake...

That cam is about 20 degrees too long in duration to work with a stock pakajet pump with an A impellor.

The hp peak of that cam will be 5600 to 5800 rpm.
The A impellor needs about 550 to 600 hp to turn that rpm.
The engine would never break 5000 rpm as it can't make enough power to get past the pump.
A 460 simply can not make enough power to get past that impellor with that cam choice.

Camming for 450 hp at 5200 rpm would work. We have a combo that does exactly that with a [email protected] .050 intake lobe.

Many thanks Scotty, I am tearing it down this weekend as it has blown a head gasket so will be able to check what cam it has plus piston style. Before it was pulling around 4800 rpm and I had assumed an A impellor but will not know conclusively until I open up the pump. I would expect the clearances to be over large too.
Was considering changing heads to P51's in the future with a stroke change so should confirm current cam first.
Many thanks for your help here, will post what I find.
