552 IS DRINKING OIL

I BUILT A 552 STROKER. THE ENGINE RUNS STRONG, HAS NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF OIL LEAKS, AND DOES NOT FOUL PLUGS. THE PROBLEM IS THE ENGINE CONSUMES ABOUT 1 QUART OF OIL FOR EVERY 150 MILES DRIVEN. I HAD A PROBLEM IN THE PAST WHERE THE INTAKE MANIFOLD SQUEEZED OUT AND OIL WAS BEING SUCKED IN FROM THE VALLEY AND BURNING IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER. I HAVE A D9TE BLOCK AND D2VE HEADS WITH A 7166 EDELBROCK MANIFOLD. IS THAT THE CORRECT MANIFOLD FOR THE TALL DECK HIEGHT (10.322") ? ANY SUGGESTION ON A DIFFERENT GASKET OR MANIFOLD?

If you are to expect an answer here in the future, the ALL CAPS post has got to go.
I have seen engines with "zero" gap rings consum oil and too much piston to wall clearance or anything causing excessive "piston rock" do the same; (especially rock at the BOTTOM of the cylinder).

Not enough to foul spark plugs or even show signs in the combustion chamber - you're talking about a THIMBLE full every five miles or so and that is virtually undetectable.

EDIT: Use the Mr. Gasket intake gaskets or the Fel-Pro with the metal enforcement sandwich; (not the regular black and blue Fel-Pro high performance gaskets).

would the taller deck height affect how the manifold alliigns with the heads?
i assume anything less than a total rebuild that there is nothing that can be done for the rocking in the bore.

.020" difference should not be any issue; the non reinforced Fel-Pro gasket does seperate after a while and cause a problem.

Just keep an eye on it and don't make it a big worry unless it gets measureably worse.
Most times when i see excessive oil consumption it is due to excessive oil getting past the valve guides. I suggest checking to see if your valve stem seals are still in one piece or have lifted off of the guide. I might even remove a spring and see if the intake valve stem to guide clearance is excessive.

Poor intake gasket seal can be a culprit too.

:D
Does your PCV port in you valve cover have a baffle?
