Being a FE guy for a long time, this forum has helped me more than words can express. I gathered advice and parts over the last 3 1/2 years and finally got the car to the track this year. Because, like alot of people with alot of toys and a family to support I tried to put my car together as inexpensivly as possible and knowing the HP potential of the 385 is why I switched. So heres my final combo as of the end of the 2004 season.

seasoned std bore dive block (froze-up).....$50
tank,bore .060(with plates),0 deck,line hone,resize rods,balance, press pistons on rods, install cam brg's and I had a set of truck rods........$628
Pistons FT with 1 eyebrow/12:1 compression, brgs, gasket set,rod bolts, rings and roller timming chain from coast performance
(hard to deal with and waited 6 months for pistons)....$748
used 9 qt front sump pan with pick-up...........$75
New melling hv oil pump.................$66
New pump drive.................$29
Heads I bought from Rick S (thanks again Rick)heavy ported Doves with 2.19/1.72.....$500 (I did roll the edges of the port opening on the Doves to match the CJ intake ports.
Machine pedestals for rocker geomitry and cut for teflon seals........$125
New seal power valve springs 140# seat/400# @ .600 off ebay for....... $58
Lunati #416061 cam and lifters new @ swap meet.......$150
351c push rods from PAW...................$43
New angus 1.8 roller rockers off ebay..............$169
Milodon valve covers from swap meet..............$25
Stock dura spark dizzy with spring kit from autozone and put 5/32 coil pin in........ $57
weiand water pump used ebay....... $42
Weiand stealth cj 8021 used ebay........$147
850 dp used ebay.........$173
New proform 950 body.......$188
Crites 2" headers....$379
Total: $3682
Add oil/filter and some misc.$ and your in under $3750.
I can't afford the parts to switch around to go to the dyno and play. I have to play at the track but that motor got a 4200# merc wagon to run 7.56 1/8's and 11.78 1/4's. The car runs great (consistent)and have had alot of fun and won a little money to boot.Using 2003 challenger engine software I found here and with smokem ups software this combo is making about 580HP. I would say the horses per doller on a 385 is unbeatable but we here already know that. I hope this helps someone starting from scratch like I did 3 years ago. sorry for this being so long.
Greg

Is this just a race car or do you drive it on the street? With the 12-1 what type of fuel do you run? thanks, jason

205.188.117.70 Coil pin..think he meant roll pin December 8 2005, 5:51 PM

The roll pin that keeps the oil pump drive gear in the correct position and keeps it from spinning on the distributor shaft

How about some real world numbers? My software says my similar combo should make 452/487, but it makes 225/325 to the rear wheels (although I really think it's just BROKEN). How about some track numbers, or some real dyno numbers?
