nice running truck gets good fuel mileage - for a 460 and never gave me any problems since 2000 when I bought it - has 99k miles now

runs OK but runs out of steam at 3500 rpm - no point in trying to rev higher - seems not much faster than a 5.8 liter

I had a 1986 f-250 460/4 speed stick years ago and it was a rocketsled compared to this truck

is 3500 rpm all I can expect or might I have weak valve springs or something? - Im using the stock tach to see rpms

My 89 is done at 4000 rpm ,actually hard to get it to 4000 rpm ,unless you floor it on a hill, but it stops pulling at about 3500.
The restrictors{air horns} in the intake track in mine are like the size of dimes its breathing thru.

1. Change air filter

2. Change fuel filter

3. Check timing

4. Check fuel pressure

The first and second probably need to be done anyway. The third is easy and can't hurt. The fourth is free if you have a guage and the gauges are cheap if you don't.
